A Forest and the Tree
In my work with forestry prior to becoming an architect, I learned what would become a unity of spirit in values surprisingly shared in both fields.
In my work with forestry prior to becoming an architect, I learned what would become a unity of spirit in values surprisingly shared in both fields. As a student in architecture I sensed it, and spoke of the similarity to a renowned professor who asked me to elaborate. I struggled to support my theory with any clarity to him. It wouldn't be clear as to how to articulate this until many years later, with years of wisdom finally put under my belt.
This Eastern Hemlock tree is an example of a species that can do well in the shade of other trees competing for sunlight. Knowing this, I selectively avoided its harvest, let it be, I decided 50 years ago. Look at its crown now, it has grown and thrived, done very well, the right call. Foresight is the link. We measure, evaluate and envision what can happen over Time. As stewards of the forest, benefits we yield from this effort, will keep growing.
